Re-Design:Upcycled Decor: $5 chairs
First, you'll want to gather supplies. Here, the chairs have a great paint job and are exactly the color I wanted so I've adjusted my project supply list accordingly. If I were painting I would need a little sandpaper, a damp cloth to wipe sanded areas, a larger drop-cloth with weights {in case of wind}, and paint accessories.
Today's project supply list:
Today's project supply list:
1. coffee- warmed up and ready to drink
2. cloth- for protecting your fabric from the ground {or if you are using a table, to protect your table from scratches}
3. heavy duty staple gun- and extra staples
4. scissors- that will cut the fabric you have chosen
5. fabric- enough to cover each chair seat plus 2-4 inches extra on each side so that it properly wraps the seat
6. screwdriver {or appropriate tools to remove seat fasteners}
.remove cushions and give the chairs a good cleaning inside and out.
.lay fabric upside down on top of your protective cloth. cut around edges of seat leaving enough room to staple fabric about 2-3 inches in from the edges. I use several staples spaced about 1/2"-1" apart on the sides and stacked side by side around the corners to keep a tight, smooth edge. I suggest starting by stapling one side and then directly opposite, pull fabric taught and staple. continue stapling opposing sides and pulling fabric taught as you go. You will have extra fabric that will be removed upon completion of stapling.
.when your seat covers are finished, place chairs upside down on your protective cloth, or climb under your chairs to replace the screws that will hold the seat in place. several layers of fabric guard later, you will have 'stain proof' ready-to-use chairs.
