Re-Design:Upcycled Decor:  Quick Color Change

Sometimes it only takes a few minutes to change a small piece in a room to get a look that is cohesive.  The peacock style wall decor that I've placed behind the wall clock was great in black, but something about it just didn't go with the changes I've been making throughout the house.  With the recent wall color change to this blue hue, I'm lightening up all the furnishing, frames, and accessories.  Andy and I have lived with neutrals for some time now and are starting to see color pop up all around the house.

For this quick 1 hour {including dry-time} color change, all you need is a can of spray paint, a drop cloth, and a well vented location.  I simply started by placing my wall hanging upside down so that I could paint and dry the backside first, allowing this side to have the most dry time before placing it back on the wall.  I allowed a good 20 minutes for the back to dry before flipping to paint the front.  After painting the front I allowed another 20 minutes for drying and then placed it on the wall in it's original location behind the wall clock.  Placing this piece behind the clock is just another way to keep things a little fun and unexpected through layering.

Since the photo, I have sourced a cute little white porcelain lamp {a $2 thrift score} and some yellow spider mums to keep our little porcelain bird company and to balance the scale of the objects that rest on top of the curio.  The silver was a small risk since the black color of the wall hanging was very nice...but what you can't see is the two adjacent walls that showcase a silver framed antique mirror on one side and a silver based lamp on the other side creating the desired trifecta of color.  The change was worth it...I {we} like the results.
